Recap:
Nationalism is a person's strong sense of pride and devotion to a person's country. Nationalism began n the 19th century as a celebration of the unique identity of each country. During this time people were more in contact because of technology. Many things were changing during this time instead of the ideology that celebrated the unique identaty of each player, it changed to a competitive ideology that emphasized not just how each country was unique but how one's country was better. That is when Bismark came and he was apperantly pro nationalism but all he really wanted was to bring more power to his family. Bismark did many things to make him seem like a good person but he really wasn't he was just being tricky. Bismark takes over France and keeps it weak and isolated, while he was becoming friends with the Austrians and Prussians. Then he goes for the British. After that his next target is the Catholic Church and the Socialists.

Review:
In class my group and I made a skit about Unifying Italy. We talked about how Garibaldi who who unified Italy along with the red shirts which were Garibaldi's followers. The leadership of uniying Italy was Victor Emanuel II. Once Garibaldi had won Naples and Sardinia he decided to turn it over to Victor Emanuel II because of the death of his wife Ana. Ana was a women Garibaldi met when he was in South America. As soon as he saw her he fell inlove. Later on they both move to Itaky and unify Italy but since Ana dies when she is pregnant with her fifth child, Garibaldi turns over Sardinia and Naples to Victor Emanuel II. This is why I believe me and my group got all the points of nationalism.
In section 3 nationalism was bringing together all the Italian states. In section 1 the German states were also being unified. Unlike Italy the German states were being united because Bismark was going to use this as a way to gain power to his family. Those were the differences between section 1 and section 3. Italy was being united for a good cause and Germany was only being unified because of a person who was only try to get respect for his family. The similarities are that both countries' states were unified and in the end they both became important to history.
Reflect and Re-invent:
My idea of nationalism is that it is good to have pride for one's own country. To defend your own country is also good. During the time of nationalism many countries went to war defending their countries. Nationalism is still used now in the present. Around the world people are still in war because of nationalism. This is because people are proud of their country and proud of who they are. This is useful because it makes everyone else the country work together to be the best.
